Also called Black tupelo, the Blackgum prefers full sun or part shade environments and does well in medium to wet soils. This tree is able to tolerate clay soil and can even grow in standing water.

FUN FACTS When in full bloom, the Blackgum’s fruits mature to a dark blue and are attractive to birds and wildlife. The leaves also boast a spectacular scarlet color in the fall and return in the spring with flowers.
